Peter Behrens [Hamburg 1868 – 1940 Berlin] German painter u. Graphic artist, architect, designer for furniture, arts and crafts, writing. Studied painting in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf. Co-founder of the Munich Secession in 1892, co-founder of the Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk in 1897 with Richard Riemerschmid, Bruno Paul u. others. 1903-07 Head of the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts, since 1907 artistic advisor to the AEG Berlin. Up to this point he designed numerous arts and crafts pieces, cutlery, furniture, industrial and representation buildings. In 1922, he became urban designs for major Berlin buildings in 1929/35, before taking over a master studio of architecture at the Academy of Arts in Berlin in 1936. Behrens designs are represented in numerous museums, i.a. in the MAKK Cologne, in the collection Mathildenhöhe, in the Metropol Museum of Modern Art New York etc , p>
