Max Bill (1908-1994) was a Swiss architect, sculptor, painter, graphic designer and writer. He was inspired by the works of Le Corbusier and was a pupil of Josef Albers, Paul Klee and Vasily Kandinsky. His works are in the Art Institute of Chicago, Hirshhorn Museum in DC, MOMA in NY, Bilbao in Spain and Kuntsmuseum Basel, Switzerland. Provenance: Private German collection.

Architect, sculptor, painter, typographer, draftsman, curator and professor, Max Bill’s work is characterised by clarity of design and precise proportions. He sought to create forms which visually represented the New Physics of the early 20th century creating objects that enabled sensory understanding. His sculptural works demonstrate his extraordinary skills of geometric abstraction. Bill’s theoretical writing and progressive works were highly influential on Swiss graphic design in the 1950s and he was known as the founder of Concretism (Concrete Art).

Max Bill (1908-1994) war ein Schweizer Architekt, Bildhauer, Maler, Grafiker und Schriftsteller. Er ließ sich von den Werken Le Corbusiers inspirieren und war ein Schüler von Josef Albers, Paul Klee und Wassily Kandinsky.
